By Chris Sharry on August 12th, 2024 in Compassionate Allowances
The compassionate allowances program can quickly identify claims where the applicant’s medical condition or disease clearly meets Social Security’s statutory definition of disability. Due to the severe nature of these conditions, many times these claims are allowed based on medical confirmation of the diagnosis.
Social Security Administration (SSA) aims to reduce the amount of time claimants wait to receive a decision on their disability claim. The compassionate allowance program helps in this effort by accelerating the disability application process for claimants who are likely to be approved for benefits due to the severity of their medical condition.
The SSA announced nine new conditions and revisions to two existing compassionate allowance conditions. These medical conditions include:
1. Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome
2. Costello Syndrome
3. Adult Heart Transplant Wait List – Status Levels 1-4
4. Child Heart Transplant Wait List – Status Levels 1A/1B (revised existing condition)
5. Histiocytic Malignancies
6. Histiocytosis Syndromes (revised existing condition)
7. Neonatal Marfan Syndrome
8. PACS1 Syndrome
9. Plasmablastic Lymphoma
10. Renal Medullary Carcinoma, and
11. Snijders Blok-Campeau Syndrome
